Ten things about Darren Sylvester

1. He wrote, recorded and produced everything on this debut album.

2. Wanting the same drum sounds as New Order, he re-built to exacting standards the same one they used in the 80’s.

3. Performing live he uses guitar, keyboards and drum machines to create a wall of sound which mixes part Ariel Pink, David Bowie and Roxy Music.

4. He uses the same microphone as Fleetwood Mac, mimicks The Carpenter’s left-to-right tom fi lls and double tracks his vocals simply because John Lennon did.

5. The lyrics encompass chemotherapy, That’s A Nice Haircut; the malaise of factory workers in Twenty Three and made a ballad about and using only Phil Spector’s favourite chords.

6. Has been three times voted one of Australia’s 50 most collectable artists by Australian Art Collector magazine.

7. Recently photographed the new Jessica Says album cover. Jessica returned the favour by covering his song to Karen Carpenter, Newville Avenue.

8. Produced this album on vinyl to be played non-stop during his exhibition held recently at Queensland’s Gallery of Modern Art, where he rebuilt the Japanese styled backyard garden of late LA duo, The Carpenters.

9. Already a well known artist, he produces photography, sculpture, video and painting. He’s featured on the cover of the Art World magazine right now.

10. His artwork is held in many Australian collections including the National Galleries of Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia. Even Sir Elton John owns a number of photographs.
